We added some new titles to the PYP fiction section. The books were acquired with the funds we we raised from last year's Scholastic Book Fair. We raised over 1000 Scholastic Points last spring! More books will be added in the coming weeks from those funds...

This summer, we added much of the Chinese-language books into our online catalog. I plan on continuing this work throughout the school year, so we have a complete and robust catalog that accurately represents our holdings.
Since our PreK families are joining us this year, we added many board books to the Picture Books section. These books are also suitable for Kindergarteners who are still getting used to reading by themselves. More board books will be added in the coming weeks. For the PYP collection - last year, we added many fiction books for PYP readers. This year, I will focus on expanding the non-fiction with books as well as magazines. We celebrated World Book Day on Monday, April 24. I had students write short book reviews in advance and display them on the library door. The book reviews are short- very short! Six-English-words-short and eight-Chinese-characters-short, or emoji-length only! Here are the directions:
In English: Write a review for a book you've read (in this library) using six words only - no more and no less. In Chinese: Write a review for a book you've read (in this library) using eight characters only - no more and no less. For K-1/picture book reviews: How does a book make you feel? 😫😀🤣😕😍😤😨 Rules: 1. Can be a book in any language 2. Has to be in this library 3. You must have read it 4. Has to be exactly 6 words (for English reviews) or 8 characters (for Chinese reviews) Can you tell which picture book cover inspired this door decoration? Over the past few months, we have been busy renovating our library space. It was a long overhaul as we had lots of work to do: the walls were stripped of black boards and re-painted; the closet doors were removed to make space for a line of bookshelves in the back of the room. We installed new shelvings along two walls, in the center of the room, as well as 3 picture book browsers for the lower grades. The new installations add about 275 linear feet of shelves, preparing the library space to hold more than 5,000 volumes of books! Here are "before" and "after" panoramic views for comparison: We also switched to a new library system and we are adding new, complete records of each and every one of the books in the library every week! Our focus is on adding English titled books right now, and over the summer, we will catalog Chinese titled books.
With new shelves come new territories to be covered and discovered! We purchased many new books this past year, both in support of our curriculum and to promote leisure reading. Our goal is to circulate the curricular books so students may check them out on their own, and to fill the library to the brim with new, extracurricular materials to cover a wide range of fiction and non-fiction subject areas. Thanks for reading, and stayed tune for more updates! |
